You can apply for the majority of these scholarships by submitting either the online PSU Undergraduate Scholarship Application or the online PSU Graduate Scholarship Application. These scholarship applications open in October and are due February 1 each year, for scholarships to be disbursed the subsequent academic year. You can log in to Scholarship Manager at any time to see which scholarship applications are available.

David and Christine Vernier Endowed Scholars Program College of Liberal Arts & Sciences STEM Scholarship

Criteria:
  • Undergraduates
  • Preference: Students who are the first generation in their family to attend college
  • Financial need as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid & Scholarships
  • Students in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences seeking a STEM career, with a preference for students seeking a teaching career in STEM fields

Dean Randy Hitz Honorary Scholarship

Scholarship for first generation students enrolled in any PSU College of Education program.

Harris Family Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship provides assistance to undergraduate students in the College of Education with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to a first generation female college student.

OCF Schwenn Transfer Student Scholarship

Criteria: This scholarship is for first generation college students transferring to Portland State University from PCC Sylvania or PCC Rock Creek campuses effective Fall 2021 term. Applicants must demonstrate financial need.

Students must have earned at least 75 college credits with a minimum GPA of 2.75 before transferring to PSU.

Students must enroll in a minimum of 8 cr at PSU in Fall 2021 and any subsequent terms in which the scholarship is awarded.

OHSU/PSU School of Public Health Dean Scholarship

To the diversity of the public health workforce with professionals who are optimally positioned to devise pragmatic strategies to address health disparities, the Dean's Scholarship Fund invests in first generation college students as well as well as students from historically underserved, or otherwise  marginalized groups. This fund will help students overcome financial barriers during their program of study and lessen the long-term financial consequences of academic costs. 

For undergraduate students, the awardees will receive a scholarship of $5,000 annually for up to a total of $20,000 during their study. The continuation of the award is contingent on satisfactory academic performance.
For students pursuing a master's degree, the awardee will receive a scholarship of $10,000 annually for up to a total of $20,000 during their study. The continuation of the award is contingent on satisfactory academic performance.   

Undergraduate students
  • Currently enrolled or admitted undergraduate students at the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health for Fall 2017
  • First Generation College Students (no parent has earned Bachelor's Degree or higher)
  • Minimal GPA of 2.5
  • Full-time student
  • US citizen, Permanent Resident, or US non-citizen national
Graduate Students
  • Currently enrolled or admitted master level graduate students at the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health for Fall 2017
  • First Generation College Students (no parent has earned Bachelor's Degree or higher)
  • Minimal GPA of 3.0
  • Enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits per term (Fall/Winter/Spring)
  • US citizen, Permanent Resident, or US non-citizen national

 


Patricia Reser Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is for undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need who are first generation college students (neither parents graduated from a four-year college). Preference will be given to students pursuing a degree in education.

  • Fields: career technical science, technology, engineering and math
  • Members of traditionally underrepresented groups

Schwenn Family Endowed Scholarship


Criteria: Applicants must be graduates of high schools in Hillsboro, Forest Grove, or Banks school districts. Criteria: The State Treasurer's Urban Pioneer Scholarship will support undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Urban & Public Affairs who are first generation college students or returning students with financial need who plan to pursue a career in public service. Students must be at least at a sophomore level, with a minimum GPA of 3.0, be a US Citizen or resident alien, and have submitted the FAFSA form. Graduate students must be enrolled at least 6.0 credit hours per term.

State Treasurer Urban Pioneer Award Scholarship - undergraduate

The Linda Nettekoven Public Involvement Scholarship

Criteria: The Linda Nettekoven Public Involvement Scholarship supports a first generation student enrolled in an undergraduate degree program within the College of Urban & Public Affairs, have a 3.0 GPA, demonstrate financial need, and seek a career in public service. Preference will be given for single parents.

The Tolerance Scholarship

  • Financial need: Yes
  • Academic record/GPA: 3.0
  • Class level: Undergraduate or graduate
  • Other criteria: First generation in one’s family to attend college or graduate school.
  • Other criteria: Individuals who have overcome substantial education or economic obstacles.
  • Preference: For students researching the causes and impacts of bigotry and discrimination and developing effective strategies for their prevention and amelioration through education of individuals and society.

Tom Potiowsky Economics Undergraduate Scholarship

This scholarship is for upper-division undergraduate students majoring in Economics.  Applicants should have a GPA of 3.0 or greater and demonstrated financial need.  There is a preferance for students who are the first in their family to attend college.

Van Valkenburg/Owren Family Scholarship

This scholarship is for Portland State University undergraduates with demonstrated financial need and a minimum GPA of 3.0.  There is an awarding preference for first generation college or university students who are immigrants or children of immigrants.

Viking Engineering + Construction Scholarship for SB Students

This scholarship is for junior or senior-level undergraduates in the School of Business.  This scholarship is for first generation college students who are immigrants or children of immigrants, with a preference for students who have graduated from the Gresham-Barlow School District and aspire to a career in construction.

Wiewel Presidential Scholarship

This scholarship is for first generation college students, with a preference for entering freshmen.  A minimum GPA of 3.85 is required.  This scholarship may be renewed if the student maintains a minimum 3.85 GPA.
